Oblates are an extension to the Benedictine family. Sr. Benedict reflects on the importance of Oblates to our community.
Since 1982 we have rejoiced in a dedicated oblate community which tends to mirror in size that of the nuns. Being a small community they can all gather residentially for their retreat every year in our guest house. Those who live locally come for a monthly day meeting. Some are able to join us for prayer and assist through voluntary work. At present they number 14. The oblates have their own statutes.

When our beautiful chapel was dedicated in 1993 the Oblates presented the sanctuary light as a gift. This is significant as our oblates share in our life of prayer and praise which is a light to the world and a reminder of the Eucharistic Presence of Christ among us.
A great spirit of community has developed over the years and we share each others joys and sorrows. As the years go by there is a deepening sense of the extended family and of our unity in the body of Christ. We feel that Minster Oblates share a special gift for community, dedication to the office, concern for the poor and loyalty to the monastery. There exists a mutual appreciation of gifts and also a respect for the space needed to live the Rule as an Oblate with no competition or comparisons, but with a living desire to seek God in peace. “
